There's a new type of reading I am trying and it's all about asking for advice. Every month I draw cards for the Month influence, Weeks: one, two, three, four, five; and then I ask for advice on where to focus my attention in the month. I then draw cards for Month influence, Weeks: one, two, three, four, five again.

This is the first time I am trying it.

January 2012
Month: The Devil:  the root of all evil. Things you are bound to do; saturn, capricorn, the teach you a lesson card? obsession; getting stuck on some details; chained to something. Physical, sex? not love. Not understanding.

Advice: Two of pentacles: getting busy, juggling lots of things but it is all manageable. This month is about earning money, and taking care of the little things. Don't let anything catch you up.

Week 1: Nine of Wands: getting things done and being physically active in sorting out all kinds of things while almost to the point of exhaustion. One thing left to finish before it's all done.

Advice: The Star: this is your chance to look forward to something. There's hope. There's inspiration. Put your energy in looking ahead at how things could be and this will guide you when you need it. The present doesn't need your attention right now. The future is still to be solidified.

Week 2: Three of Pentacles: sorting things out with colleagues and learning new things.  Studying? Being given critique and advice, more likely. Having to cooperate with others in order to get things sorted out.

Advice: Five of Swords: don't take anything personally. This is the week when your ego is going to rear up it's head and tell you that you shouldn't be talked to like that, things should be this way not that way, that you're being taken advantage of, that you need to put your foot down and that you need to bully someone in order to stop them bullying you. Bullshit. Take a humility pill and sit back and enjoy the ride. Your ego is going to take a kicking. Good. Let it. You never needed an ego anyway. You have love and that's enough.

Week 3: Knight of Cups (Strength) - any leisure time is going to be hard work this week. Any travel will be difficult. You will have to grit your teeth and bear it.

Advice: Ace of Cups: Enjoy the time. Let yourself sink into the new emotional space that distance lets you enjoy. This is all about you. When you are on your own , let yourself enjoy it. You don't have to answer to anyone else's demands. Love is building and growing and inviting you to surf along its waves. Refresh yourself on how it feels.

Week 4: Five of Pentacles: money will be tight and this is a warning about not getting into too much financial trouble and not sinking into a sharing of doom. Watch your physical resources and don't share what you don't have. Neither a lender nor a borrower be.

Advice: Knight of Pentacles (six of wands): whatever your goal this week you will be successful but you will need to do it slowly, steadily and methodically. Test everything. Be dull. Be repetitive. Check every clause and every nuance. Your outcome will be successful. Phd News?

Week 5: Ace of Wands: You will find a bit more of a sexual element in the air this week. The excitement will be rising and you'll be thinking, why not?

Advice: Take your time and be patient. There's no need to rush anything. If he isn't willing to wait then he isn't worth waiting for.

Month = 6; The Lovers - deciding , communicating, vacillating, not deciding.
Advice = 5; do things the right way; traditionally; play by the rules; find out what the rules are; you'll be back in a work environment in no time; you may be back at school soon.

Prediction of who will leave the Apprentice, UK, tonight [season seven, episode three]

The Apprentice is back on our screens in the UK for its seventh season. The first week started with a double treat of two episodes which means two candidates are now gone. Today we have the third episode and the demise of the third rejected candidate.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to try out a new technique. I'm going to draw a card for each candidate until I arrive at the Fool which will indicate the person who Lord Sugar turns to and speaks those fateful words.

What do you do with cards that are missing from the tarot deck?

This morning I drew my daily tarot cards and I only noticed later that the Knight of Swords was missing from the deck. Sometimes I like to think that the right cards were drawn anyway but today I took it as an opportunity to redo my cards. They weren't looking so fun in the first place.

James Ricklef's Tarot Blog has many useful resources for tarot enthusiasts at all levels. The man himself is a tarot reader, lecturer, and writer. He has been a frequent workshop presenter at the annual Los Angeles Tarot Symposium as well as a guest presenter at the New York Tarot Reader’s Studio and the San Francisco Bay Area Tarot Symposium. He is the author of the award-winning book Tarot Tells the Tale: Explore Three Card Readings Through Familiar Stories and the follow-up book, Tarot: Get the Whole Story: Use, Create & Interpret Tarot Spreads. He is also the creator of the Tarot of the Masters deck.

The Aeclectic Tarot site does a great job of providing a lot of relevant information in a simple package. It has been around since 1996 and features information on tarot decks, over a thousand are listed, information is available to help you learn the 78 tarot card meanings, and you can get a free tarot reading, read tarot eBooks, and much, much more.

The two most useful aspects of the site for me are the following: 1) tarot deck information because there are pictures of the cards and I can explore before I purchase; and 2) the forum and section on tarot card spreads. As a reader, new or slightly less new, the most useful skill you will have is your ability to find the answer to a question. There are hundreds if not thousands of tarot spreads which will help you achieve this. They range from the classic Celtic Cross to the simple three card spread and the yes or no spreads that you may be already using. Somewhere past these are the myriad variations and enhancements which feature looking for love, money, lost pets and many more.

Whether you are a new enthusiast to Tarot or have been indulging the subject for years, there are many things of benefit and interest to Mary K. Greer's blog. Greer is a published author on the Tarot and has been in print for over 20 years.

Her writing ranges from texts that deal with further understanding of the tarot cards and helping people learn tarot spreads and how to use the deck. There is something for everyone and I recommend you investigate what she has to offer.

A free 12-week course on learning the tarot is available from Lotus Tarot. 12 lessons are made available alongside 12 tests for each one. They suggest you need your own deck of cards and a book or two for reference.

How does the course work

There is a weekly schedule of lessons but you can go at your own pace as the lessons are all on the website already.

The lessons consist of study material, practical exercises and a few multiple-choice questions at the end of each, so you can test your understanding and retention of the lesson before moving on to the next one.

Tarot News: Cheryl Cole Seek's Advice

The demise of Cheryl Cole's love life was publicly documented in the press. From the first date to filing for divorce, the cameras and journalists' notepads have been on scene. We have been provided with information about what has been going on but there must have been some secret moments.

Chery Cole is known to have been visiting clairvoyants for advice and it's a good thing that what they told her has been kept secret. However, we can use her case to help out others so I've drawn three cards for advice on what she should do.

I drew the 3 of cups - 6 of cups - 5 of wands.

The 3 of cups suggest she should be out celebrating with her female friends because she's had too much time on her own (6 of cups). The trouble has been the lack of interaction and fun and dealing with troubles that came up (5 of wands). The cards add up to 14 which is the major arcana card Temperance. This card suggests finding a balance between what you love and what you do. Ideally she should find an outlet in her professional life so we may see a new album on the way. The time on her own may be draining her from the fun she could be having.

Query: When will I know the man I will marry?

Dear B,

I used the Osho Zen tarot deck and i drew the card Maturity and Sharing. This tells me that you will soon reach a stage when you will know and understand and actually feel the possibilities everywhere around you. You will have all the resources to appreciate the world, yourself and all the changes that happen because you know that they do not truly affect the way you are. Once you are happy with yourself and you have the resources to not be affected by the ephemeral changes around you, then you will be able to identify the person who offers himself to you. You will know who that is by your ability and desire to share yourself rather than need or demand something of him.

Look out for that moment when your impulse is to share all your energy, compassion and love with someone and you will know that he is the one for you.

It's never too late so thanks for leaving your question.

I asked the cards what advice there was for you for your love life and I drew the following:

4 of swords - knight of cups (empress) [king of cups (7 of pentacles) - page of pentacles (2 of wands)

Moon

The past situation has brought up a lot of confusion for you and things were just too unstable for you to decide what to do. This isn't the time to try to find answers however but it's a great time to try to get your mind to rest from all the hassle. A trip home to mum might be a good idea or even just a relaxing break away so you can rest. I see that there is the possibility of a school invitation or an adventure for some time in the future. This will give you the energy and focus to look forward to something. I also think that if this guy is a water sign - maybe quite passive aggressive or unable to communicate properly - he could be rethinking what he's done and it may not be all over. If the King of Cups is not him then there could be someone waiting to comfort you on your trip away. The future is looking bright with many possibilities. Don't put off visiting home and don't let yourself get lost in the uncertainty of the past. Things are already looking better!

Reading Interpretation for Eva

Dear Eva,

I am not sure which positions you use for the celtic cross but I assume that card 6 is the near future? I would suggest that the 9 of cups brings you what you want - the pregnancy - but then what follows is not going to be easy. You may feel like you just need to decide to get pregnant and that's the whole story but there's more here that will come up for you. Money problems could mean some serious considerations about moving or deciding what to do. You and your partner may need to think about how to finance this situation.
