I will be posting some information about learning the tarot and hopefully help you find the resources that can help you.

One of the most useful sites I have encountered is 'Learning the Tarot'. The website contains Lessons about learning to use the tarot, individual pages of descriptions and keywords about each card, a version of the course you can download and a list of decks you can browse through.

The first card of the Major Arcana is the Fool and the following keywords are provided: BEGINNING, SPONTANEITY, FAITH, and APPARENT FOLLY.

There are actions associated with the Fool and some of them are as follows:

beginning
entering a new phase
striking out on a new path
expanding horizons
starting something new
beginning an adventure
going on a journey
heading into the unknown

Opposing cards are suggested such as the Hierophant which means: following convention, routine.

A description is provided and suggestions about how to use the card.

Tarot News: Cheryl Cole Seek's Advice

The demise of Cheryl Cole's love life was publicly documented in the press. From the first date to filing for divorce, the cameras and journalists' notepads have been on scene. We have been provided with information about what has been going on but there must have been some secret moments.

Chery Cole is known to have been visiting clairvoyants for advice and it's a good thing that what they told her has been kept secret. However, we can use her case to help out others so I've drawn three cards for advice on what she should do.

I drew the 3 of cups - 6 of cups - 5 of wands.

The 3 of cups suggest she should be out celebrating with her female friends because she's had too much time on her own (6 of cups). The trouble has been the lack of interaction and fun and dealing with troubles that came up (5 of wands). The cards add up to 14 which is the major arcana card Temperance. This card suggests finding a balance between what you love and what you do. Ideally she should find an outlet in her professional life so we may see a new album on the way. The time on her own may be draining her from the fun she could be having.

The queen of swords clarified with temperance

I drew cards on a daily basis and while I don't usually take that much notice of them, they are useful as ways of learning and of marking events. For example when a friend's dad was run over by a car i had drawn the chariot (he survived! he's a very strong guy though he suffered a lot).The cards and the daily draws are mostly used as a way of creating a tarot vocabulary. Learning which cards go with which events.

The following are my day cards for the 3th of August, 2008:

The house mate is sleeping so i'm tempted to just carry on doing my web stuff on my own - looking up more information on astrology etc. This fits in with the wise and silent high priestess. She doesn't rock the boat and she is at a place in her life where no action needs to be taken - she is internalising the plans for the next step ahead. The best potential though calls for some action and some speed. There's a bit of a contrast. I woke up the house mate and have been updating my blog so that could be it.

My midday influence looks quite interesting! Drawing the same card in the position with the same clarifier is pretty unusual. Especially since i count out the different cards when selecting them in order and put them back in separate places in the deck. The queen of swords were placed in different parts of the deck and shuffled before the two draws. I'll have to wait and see about what the queen of swords has to tell me. She's usually about writing i think. Maybe i'll talk to my mother who is a libra but with an aries energy of 'me, me, me'. Gotta love 'em. Ironically I dated an aries for a while but with a libra energy. It's probably not ironic at all actually - just fitting in with the normal patterns of repeating cycles in life.

Oh and btw - i note on a previous post about the devil. I spent the rest of that day working on a report and it took all day! I was committed and had to do it. In the end it wasn't the right format so i spent the next few weeks redoing it over and over again. I submitted a version on Friday (in time with the eclipse - well a few degrees later for the moon) so now i'm waiting to see how that goes.

The Devil

I have drawn the devil as my day card and as my best potential day card. Not quite sure what to make of it. Something binding or something basic in nature, grounded, restrictions and chains but unable to see any choices.

My favourite devil character is the Tom Robbins idea of nature all wrapped with instinct and primitive sensations and instincts.

Mars and Saturn conjunction - affecting me

I have the transiting Mars-Saturn conjunction in my 8th house. where it is conjunct Saturn in the 8th; Mars and Saturn both square Mercury in the 11th. Mars and Saturn also sextile venus in the 10th; Mars and Saturn bi-quintile mars in the 11th; they square (widely at 9 degrees) Neptune in the 11th and the trine chiron in the 4th. They also semi-square the MC very tightly at less than 1 degree.

The transiting sun is trining my natal sun and uranus. It also squares pluto and the true nodes in the 9th house (libra) and the MC at 1 degree.
Transiting Mercury in the 6th is conjunct my jupiter in the 6th.

I haven't used asteroids at all but this newsletter points out some interesting ones. My adonis asteroid is at Libra 29' 25 in my 10th House.

Reading for D - having a baby

I would like to know if and when I will have a baby of my own. Do I need to seek medical assistance?

Having a baby: i drew the card 'slowing down' and 'no-thingness'. I would suggest that you start to take it easy and get less worried about things. The baby will come in its own time but it won't be for a while. There is nothing to do but intend for this to happen and then wait. Pause and relax for the time being because something beautiful is waiting to be born.

Medical assistance: i drew the cards adventure and letting go. You may need to seek out ways that are as yet unknown to you and then leave the rest to fate. But be adventures and try to find out as much as possible. This isn't the time to be fearful of what can happen. Let go of your fears.

Hi Suzanne,

The way things stand at the moment makes it look a little tough for you and I'll tell you why. You will do brilliantly at your studies and you will have great success but when it comes to post-studies settling down you will have some issues. There will be a lot of hard work to get a job and you will need to move. The first problem you will encounter will be about where to go - I think you like the idea of moving away. However you will have a tough time financially and may need to come back home.

Your move away will cause some problems and you'll want to escape. You may benefit from re-evaluating your expectations about what you want to achieve. Is it independence or steady employment?

There is still plenty of time to choose a different path in terms of location.

Horary chart - will i complete my degree?

An horary chart is created by asking a question and finding the answer in the placement of the placements at the time when the question was asked.

My question was asked at 14:10 on the 7th of June 2008. I've had a tough week in relation to my degree and wanted to know whether I would complete it.

The ascendant of the chart is at one degree Libra which ordinarily would be too early to ask but I will temporarily see it as an early stage of the next part of the degree.

What planet or planets rule the querent?
Libra ascendant means that venus rules me (the querent). Venus is found in the 9th house which is the house of higher education as well as foreign cultures and various trips. This sounds fitting and suits the question.
The moon always co-rules the querent and the moon is in leo in the 11th house. The sun rules leo and is in the 9th house conjunct venus.

The natural ruler of this question would be Jupiter as it rules higher education. Jupiter is found in the 4th house in Capricorn. The ruler of capricorn is saturn which bodes for delays and struggles.

jupiter is bi-quincux venus which could indicate necessary adjustment or reorganization. Quincuxes often relate to 6th and 8th house issues and in this case I would need to adjust my work times etc.

Where the querent is next to the sun the matter will not pass, is what the book says, and in my question the sun is very tightly conjunct venus within one degree. This indicates a no.

However, I then look at Saturn which does seem to fit the heading of querent as it is the almuten of the 9th. However, there are no aspects between Jupiter and Saturn.

This seems to be a no to me. Perhaps it is too soon to tell (1 degree ascendant).

I used the Osho Zen tarot deck and i drew the card Maturity and Sharing. This tells me that you will soon reach a stage when you will know and understand and actually feel the possibilities everywhere around you. You will have all the resources to appreciate the world, yourself and all the changes that happen because you know that they do not truly affect the way you are. Once you are happy with yourself and you have the resources to not be affected by the ephemeral changes around you, then you will be able to identify the person who offers himself to you. You will know who that is by your ability and desire to share yourself rather than need or demand something of him.

Look out for that moment when your impulse is to share all your energy, compassion and love with someone and you will know that he is the one for you.

A trip home to mum might be a good idea or even just a relaxing break away so you can rest. I see that there is the possibility of a school invitation or an adventure for some time in the future. This will give you the energy and focus to look forward to something. I also think that if this guy is a water sign - maybe quite passive aggressive or unable to communicate properly - he could be rethinking what he's done and it may not be all over. If the King of Cups is not him then there could be someone waiting to comfort you on your trip away. The future is looking bright with many possibilities. Don't put off visiting home and don't let yourself get lost in the uncertainty of the past. Things are already looking better!

I am recovering from a cold that occurred about three weeks ago and am still feeling a lack of energy. I think that more than the physical there is a mental negativity that I have embraced this month where I compare myself to others around me and don't feel like I am gaining as much as they are. I come off worse in all comparisons especially since a co-worker who I constantly help out is earning more than me and this to me feels unfair. My self-hate is getting the better of me this month and I think it shows. I have only managed to meditate once and that was yesterday. I have to drop this comparison because it is draining away all my positive energy. I have also started working full-time again after a couple of years of study and I keep feeling that I am not earning enough to be doing all this work (Even though I was earning less for the last two years) and that I now have no time and that this is the end to my freedom. I feel restricted! and pressured and taken advantage of which are all ways for my self-hate to kick in and tell me that I'm not good enough and that there's something wrong. The rational part of me knows that there's nothing wrong so I have to focus on this knowledge and take care of me.

Financially I am making a big effort to budget and to record all expenditures so as not to get into more debt. I think that this is a time where things are changing and there's a lot less freedom in how I lead my days. This is getting to me and I have to accept it, mourn and move on.

Direct or indirect payment?

A little information for those that are interested.

I recently added a ppp direct little (well not so little) graphic on my site and it allows advertisers a way to get a post bought directly. PPP is a way of getting blogging sites some extra money. PPP direct is a direct way of doing this - they provide the middle 'man' to the extent that your money is guaranteed and they manage things. The opportunities are added to your personal page on the ppp website so it's all official. My cost is $5 a post (how cheap!) since this is not the busiest of sites (not sure if anyone visits at all) but check out the ppp blog site direct amount... $500!!! very impressive, non?

How this works is that an advertiser is browsing through blogs and reading bits and pieces here and there. If they would like me to write something about them then they click on the 'hire me' image/link and then make me an offer. The benefit of ppp over other similar sites is that the mark up on ppp is a lot less than on the other ones. 50% to 100% on rival advertising through blogging sites whereas ppp is only at 35%. When using ppp direct the markup is only 10% of which half is admin costs.

I came across this query in search for this site so I'd like to take the opportunity to address the question.

The ace of pentacles is the first card of the earth suit and is associated with fertility. Your actions towards any event would have consequences and provide feedback. The card in the Radiant RWS deck shows a hand offering a pentacle and a gate covered with flowers at the end of the path. Here is an opportunity being handed to you although you have to be able to reach out and take the offering.

If someone sees you as the ace of pentacles they realise that you are grounded and full of potential. They envisage that an investment in some sense could be made with you and you are probably an older person with a lot to give.

When you draw this card for how someone sees you then it may be a good idea to see what needs the other person sees you as meeting. Some potentials could be physical, partnership, functional, utilitarian, career progression etc. Babies is a big potential here as well.

Death shows something inevitable and it could be the end of partnership. The situation is already difficult and there's a lot of hard work involved. The ace of pentacles signifies a new opportunity but the new opportunity could be seen as just too much hard work. This person wants to work for themselves and not have anyone tell them what to do. Communication does not appear in these cards so someone is blatantly not feeding back what is expected of them. The fire and earth cards are near the end of their cycle so there is something coming to a close. There could be a return to a stronger structure. I think an offer will be made for this friend to do more work for more money but it could be turned down.

Ok - kind of an exercise but I drew this card for some people in particular. I drew 'past lives' for how does x feel about y. In the osho zen deck this card is about being open to any clear messages you can get at this stage because everything is a little hazy.

The description says " The real point is to see and understand the karmic patterns of our lives, and their roots in an endless repetitive cycle that traps us in unconscious behavior.

A glimpse into the eternity of our existence is a gift, and understanding the function of karma in our lives is not something that can be grasped at will. This is a wake-up call; the events in your life are trying to show you a pattern as ancient as the journey of your own soul.

I suggest that perhaps he still feels confused about issues that he can't articulate. Perhaps issues that he isn't even aware that he is experiencing. He hasn't decided how to proceed with these feelins yet. He can feel the confusion but he can't see past it. There could be a tendency to try to distract the mind and avoid thinking about the situation altogether. He can't avoid it though and it will still come back in order to be resolved at some further point in time.

The world

There's a friend of a friend who recently started seeing someone and I keep drawing 'the world' for him. A few weeks (maybe 3) after he broke up with his girlfriend I drew the 2 of cups - 9 of cups and the world for him. Later info suggested that this was a one night stand - or just some one night romance. Nothing too serious. But now he's dating someone - for about 3 months now and I keep getting the world.

I have always seen this card as an ending but maybe it's also a sign of union? perhaps this is a strong relationship that combines the two of them into a whole new creation? maybe?

Maybe she is the world to him - could be the one he will marry and she might have been the romance right near the start.

There was (and probably still is) an advance money place in colchester just outside the bus station. Though they'll be moving the bus station soon I think. Boxing Day television isn't as exciting right now as I anticipated pre-holiday time. The two ronnies are on - a court room sketch where the prosecutor asks the witness questions to establish what his profession was. The sketch is in the style of mastermind/call my bluff/ blankety blanks etc/charades.

I saw the grinch yesterday - it was the first time that I had seen the end which was quite nice. Poor grinch fellow - they made fun of him when he was tiny.

slow cooking chicken

Merry Christmas !

Yesterday we had a really late dinner (12 am!) because we were trying a new roast chicken method suggested by Heston Blumenthal. You first put the chicken in an 8 per cent salt water solution for 6 hours. Then you boil the chicken twice for 30 seconds. You leave it over night in the fridge so it can dry out. Then you cook it at 60 degrees celsius for four and a half hours.

We only left it in the salt water for about an hour and didn't let the poor thing dry out over night but put it in the oven straight after the boiling. The result was fantastic - the chicken meat practically melted off of the bones. Absolutely wonderful. I'm looking forward to doing the same thing with duck and lamb maybe!

We also had roast potatoes and a broccoli, bacon, chestnut and cream concoction which was also delicious. A bit heavy for that time of night but it was well worth the wait.

Kooky love affair

Grey, purple, hazy, opaque fog outside my window and it's freezing in here and out there. I'm out to go out for my last day at work of the year. Very relaxed half day and showing up late to check out some output and then leave. I wish I could take my data with me to work on over the week that I plan on taking off but no such luck. I just don't have the software at home... shame. I will just have to work on drawing up conclusions I guess.

Oh and making pretty graphs! I've now discovered how to give each individual excel point its own colour and my schemes are superb.

I had mulled wine last night - not home made unfortunately. I'll save the making of the lovely wine until tonight - I will have to buy some kind of container for it.

Grrr and more Grrrr

had my meeting and it all seemed so pointless - he looked over some charts that i did and thought a bit of it was interesting. Then he gave some pointers and how to do the graphs better and suggested a couple of additional variables I could use.

Then in the middle of this discussion he says oh you're meant to be working on that review (my whole paper that i'm supposed to hand in at some indeterminate point in the future which he hasn't discussed or mentioned handing in anything to read !!) how's it going? i said yeah good. Meaning that just today i found my old draft of that paper and i was going to look at it.

grrrrr... why not focus on me working on that paper instead of wasting time with silly tables? jesus.

I'll be working on that tonight so i can have an official copy ready for submission by the time i see him again in about a month! a month!!

oh did i mention that i have tickets to see incubus in london in a few months? i also have two for sale if anyone wants to negotiate a good price?

regression and studies

I have been reading a phd on a topic which is kinda related to mine and have been very impressed and pretty well daunted by it as well.

A couple of things have me hmmming ... mostly the fact that i need to find out about more detailed aspects of statistical analysis.

The first two things i'm looking up today are
1 - random coefficient of variation
and
2 - binomial distribution

I need a better understanding of these so am off with the help of google to find them. Failing that I could always look up my statistical books.

Not many visitors

Not many visitors to this blog but then I never advertised it and I'm not too full of time I guess.

I think I'll post the occasional post from now on so that the poor little blog doesn't just sit here and feel lonely.

soy latte

I bought a soy latte from nero because the nice people stamp my card when they take my money so i get the 10th coffee free. Anyway the girl was a bit weird and looked at me questioningly a couple of times. Their board lists the coffee prices for 'out' and 'in' so i asked for a soya latte (i first asked if soya was available and she said yes but didn't mention the cost) for 'out'. She then looked at me bizarrely and said to drink in or take away. So i said take away and kinda half assed pointed towards the door with my thumb.

Since she hadn't mentioned the price i had my 2.10(!!! expensive) ready to pay but the cash register showed 2.25 (in price) and 30 for the soy - so i said i'm having it take away and then she kinda looked confused for a sec and then changed the price to 2.10. no apology or anything or any kind of acknowledgement that she had screwed up. It was all the same to her. I don't even know why i'm pissed off at that - i mean i was paying over 2 pounds for a cup of coffee for gods sake. Sigh.
